Horse Racing Tips: It’s Not All About Speed
Is Speed All That Matters?
Horse racing junkies know that the sport is not all about speed. It’s about the bets you make. The money is in the bets beyond backing the favorites. There’s an entire salad bowl of bets to choose from depending on horse racing tips you harvest for the day. The rule of thumb here is to know how the betting rules.
Of course, if you are into the basic betting, like going along with the multitude who are pinning their hopes on the favorites, you need speed. But how much are you going to profit from such an investment? When all the money is on the favorite, what can you expect? Even the basic of free horse racing tips and horse racing system will warn you to go against the grain.
There are several types of bets and the common types are bets to win, to place, and bet to show. You can place your bets in the gambling station, or online if this is not against your country’s laws. The common gambling gambit at the race track is to pool the gamblers’ money. This money is shared according to the stakes placed by the winners.
If you bet at the exchanges, you’ll need to know about locking in odds at the right time. This is more complicated, especially if you know nothing about how the local betting exchange works. Tips for horse racing may help you out, but the final choice is yours. This is also true when it comes to football betting tips and selecting the rightpoker tournament strategy.
The Types of Horse Racing Bets
Of the three common types of betting, bet to show is safer when you’re not keen about losing much money but after better rewards. Betting to place give lower payouts than betting to win, but there is more to bet to win or place if you really want bigger wins. But different countries have different ways to play bets.
One example is Each Way bet. In this type of bet, your stake is split - to win and to place. British and European punters enjoy a win either way but in the US, a win is considered only when the horse places first or second.
Here are some of the bets you can try next time if you haven’t done these yet:
1. Betting across the board. You are betting on your horse to cop any of the three top places. You place $2 Across the Board - to win, to place, and to show. That’s a $6 bet. If the horse obliges, you collect all the three bets. If the horse took the second position, you still have the bets to place and to show to collect. If the horse grabbed the third slot, you take home the money from winning bet to show.
2. Exacta and Exacta Box. For the former, you pick out the two horses that’ll top the race. You must make sure about the order of their wins. Horse A to place first and Horse B to place second, and if the horses decide to swap their positions, you lose. If you’re not sure about their positions but you are convinced they’ll wipe other contenders out, try the Exacta Box. But the more horses you place in the box, the higher your wager goes.
3. Quinella. This is actually two different bets in one ticket. You also bet on the first and second placers. It works like the Exacta Box, but the payout is substantial.
4. Trifecta and Trifecta Box. This is also known as the triple bet. You pick the horses that will place first, second, and third. In straight Trifecta, you bet $2 for 1-2-3. In the Trifecta Box, you choose four horses that’ll take the top four places and to win, these must be in the proper order of choices.
5. Superfecta. This like the Trifecta, but this time, you are going for four horses in the correct order of first, second, third, and fourth.
The Picks
Depending on the track, you can have your choice of picks. In the picks bet, there are Pick 3 and Pick 4 to choose from. For the former, you choose the horse that will win three successive races. In Pick 4, you predict the four horses that will make it in four consecutive races.
You’ve heard about the Parlays and the Doubles. Start with the simple bets until you’ve mastered all. When it comes to the picking, you’ll get your pie in the sky.
