Baseball Training Videos

A simple search on the Internet for "Baseball Training Videos" and you’ll find hundreds of thousands of options. It can be quite overwhelming. Here’s where this article comes in. It will help you select how to choose the right baseball training video for you.

I’ve been coaching baseball for over 25 years now and I’ve not only relied on my experiences to help my ball players get better, but also on the numerous training videos that I’ve bought. Some videos have been great, some ok and some not worth the disk they were burned on. But what creates value in these videos is not what most people think.

The most important thing in a baseball training video is…CONTENT!

I’m not sure why some people expect a video to have Hollywood-type production values. It costs tens, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars to make a Hollywood-type video. I’ve discovered anyone who has spent that kind of money on making a video or DVD is trying to make up for a huge, glaring problem…the content is no good! And content that will help you become a better ballplayer is the reason you bought the baseball training video in the first place!

If you want production value go to the movies.

I’ve learned that the poorer the production value the better the content…and the better off my players were for it.

The next main thing you should look for is who’s making the video. Does he practice what he preaches? I’ve seen countless strength and fitness "experts" who are very skinny and slow, look like a roid-up bodybuilder or, even worse, have a gut hanging over their belt. Stay away from these pretenders like the plague!

Your strength and conditioning coach should be athletic, fit and powerful. But that’s not all it takes. He must know what he’s doing.

Here are a few questions you should ask yourself before you purchase any baseball training video:

Who has he trained?
Does his system make sense when it comes to baseball?
Does he rely on silly gadgets or fads?
Or does he base his training around time-tested protocols that work?
Does he have testimonials from other players, coaches and parents to prove his products work as advertised?

These are important and should never be over-looked. There are many, many pretenders, especially since it’s so easy to call yourself an expert via the Internet.

Baseball training videos are great because they allow you to learn at a distance from some of the best teachers out there. They have really allowed many parents, coaches and players to improve their abilities without traveling across the country to do so. I’m a big believer in them and feel they should be a part of every coach, player and parents collection. The minute you think you can’t learn any more is when you’re in some serious trouble.

I hope my 25 years of coaching (and buying videos) will help you in your quest for great baseball training videos. They are out there and do exist. But like any other industry, there are pretenders. Happy video hunting!
